My story

Gabrielle stood out very early in sports such as speed kayaking and dragon boating. Following her mother's cancer in 2001, she decided to do a bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2004. She wanted to deepen her knowledge on the benefits of physical activity during cancer treatments. She then specialized in rehabilitation with patients suffering from chronic pain.

In 2014, while completing her registration for a post graduate program in adapted physical activity, she received a diagnosis of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), an incurable blood cancer that requires lifelong treatment. She still decided to continue her efforts to obtain training that would allow her to work with children suffering from cancer in a hospital environment. As there are no physical activity programs or hospital services of this kind in America for this population, she undertakes an internship in Montpellier, France, at the Arnaud-de-Villeneuve University Hospital, where researchers have established this service in multiple hospitals center across Europe since 2005.

On her return, she presented a project to implement physical activity in pediatric oncology at the Sainte-Justine University Hospital. She was then asked to PhD on the feasibility of implementing this service in a hospital environment in Quebec. In 2020, she published leaflets on physical activity recommendations based on her doctoral research intended for children, families, and teachers of children with cancer. In 2022 it publishes a version intended for adults undergoing treatment and after treatment for cancer. With the Leukemia Lymphoma society of Canada, she also created a self-learning web training course on physical activity in pediatric oncology intended for health professionals. The leaflets were presented during the Quebec Oncology Congress in 2021. Gabrielle received the Brandone-Marcovecchio recognition award given by the SLLC in 2022 as well as a scholarship from the Cole foundation in 2018. Since then, she has developed this business in order to offer an adapted physical activity support service for adult clients in the Eastern Townships region.
